FTC sends more than $9.8 million in refunds in Walmart money-transfer case

The agency is mailing checks to 65,022 people after a 2025 settlement over alleged failures to stop fraud-induced transfers.

The FTC said on October 15 that it was sending more than $9.8 million in checks to 65,022 people affected by a Walmart money-transfer case. The payments follow a June 2025 settlement.

The agency alleged that Walmart failed to stop scammers who used its transfer services to take hundreds of millions of dollars from U.S. consumers. The complaint said Walmart lacked effective anti-fraud procedures, employee training and customer warnings.

What recipients need to know

Recipients should cash their checks within the 90-day period printed on each check. Questions can go to refund administrator Rust Consulting Inc. at 1-833-472-1990 or to the FTC’s online frequently asked questions.

The FTC says it never requires someone to pay money or provide account information to receive a refund.
