DOE selects 63 tribal energy projects for funding talks

The projects span 16 states. Selection opens negotiations over more than $125 million; it does not guarantee funding.

A cut-paper network of distributed energy projects spans an abstract landscape with one planning link still open.

The U.S. Department of Energy selected 63 tribal energy projects for negotiations over more than $125 million in funding on October 22. The projects involve 61 tribal entities across 16 states, including Alaska.

What the projects would do

DOE says the projects aim to lower electricity costs, improve access to power, and support economic development in tribal communities.

Funding is not final

Selection starts the negotiation process; it does not guarantee an award or payment. DOE and the applicants still need to complete those talks, and the department can cancel a selection.
