The BMW M driver ended the 2026 championship with two wins and five more podiums, while Thomas Preining took the title for Porsche.

Marco Wittmann finished the 2026 DTM season third in the drivers’ standings after taking third place in Saturday’s Hockenheim race and seventh in the second race. Thomas Preining won the title for Porsche, with Maro Engel second for Mercedes.

Wittmann entered the finale with a chance at a third drivers’ championship, but BMW said the #11 Schaeffler BMW M4 GT3 EVO did not have the pace to challenge at the front across the decisive weekend. His Saturday podium kept the campaign competitive without changing the final order.

A strong season stopped short of the title

Across 16 races, Wittmann won at the Nürburgring and Sachsenring and added one second-place finish and four thirds. That gave him two victories, five further podiums and 198 points for the season.

Schubert Motorsport also finished third in the DTM team standings. Teammate Kelvin van der Linde ended his first DTM season as a BMW works driver in 14th, with one win and 96 points after a collision and pit-stop problems dropped him to 18th in the final race.
