Four CFDA Scholars Complete Paid Design Internships at Veronica Beard
The New York placements put students inside denim, wovens, knitwear and tailoring teams, with work spanning collection development, fittings and designs developed for production.

The Council of Fashion Designers of America published its account on September 25, 2026. It follows four Creative Futures Scholars through paid summer internships with design teams at Veronica Beard's New York City headquarters.
Summer Kubota, Jane Lee, Chris Ortiz and Madison Valenta worked across tailoring, knitwear, soft wovens and denim. Their placements were part of the 2026 Veronica Beard x CFDA Creative Futures Scholarship.
From sketches to production decisions
The scholars contributed to upcoming collections, joined fittings and developed designs for production. That range exposed them to the creative choices, technical constraints and commercial decisions involved in moving a collection from an idea toward a finished product.
Ortiz also presented his work at the morning reception for Step Up for Fashion, an annual Madison Avenue event that benefits the CFDA Scholarship Fund. The presentation put his work before an industry audience beyond the internship team.
Experience to carry back to school
All four scholars are returning for their senior year. CFDA says they leave the summer with firsthand experience inside an operating fashion company and a stronger understanding of how an individual design point of view can translate into industry work.
