Selima Salaun set for Accessories Council Hall of Fame induction

The October 15 honor recognizes the Selima Optique founder's role in turning eyewear into an expression of personal style, with half of the event's proceeds supporting an animal sanctuary.

Sculptural eyeglasses rest on a pedestal beneath an open award arch and a single sanctuary leaf.

The CFDA published its account on September 25, 2026. It said eyewear designer Selima Salaun, founder of Selima Optique, would be inducted into the Accessories Council Hall of Fame on October 15 during a cocktail reception at Indochine.

The Hall of Fame recognizes people whose talent, leadership and body of work have made a lasting contribution to the accessories industry. For Salaun, the case rests on more than three decades of treating eyewear as personal expression as well as a functional object.

How eyewear became part of a look

The CFDA points to Salaun's Aldo sunglasses, which became closely associated with the late Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy, as an example of that influence. It also notes that figures including Michael Jackson, Madonna, Bono, Rihanna, Liv Tyler and Marina Abramovic wore her frames.

Salaun trained in Paris before moving to New York, where she worked with Royal Optique and managed Alain Mikli's New York boutique. She founded the Selima Optique eyewear line in 1993 and built craftsmanship into the brand's identity.

The reception also connects the honor to Salaun's longstanding animal-welfare work. Half of the event's proceeds will go to Tamerlaine Sanctuary & Preserve, which rescues, protects and cares for animals in need.
