BMW i3 debuts as Berlin Marathon lead car with a provisional 906-kilometer range

The first all-electric BMW 3 Series led the men's race, giving BMW a prominent showcase for a range claim that still lacks a binding WLTP value.

An original electric sedan leads a flowing marathon course beneath an open-ended range arc, with a single running shoe beside the route.

The new all-electric BMW i3 made its debut as the lead vehicle for the men's race at the 2026 BMW Berlin Marathon. BMW identifies it as the first all-electric BMW 3 Series and the second model in its Neue Klasse generation.

The i3 shared organizational duties with the electric BMW iX3, iX, i5 and i4. The setting gave the new sedan exposure at a weekend of sporting events that drew more than 84,000 participants from 162 nations.

The range claim remains provisional

BMW lists an all-electric range of up to 906 kilometers, or about 563 miles. The company says that could be enough to cover all seven World Marathon Majors over two and a half years without recharging. That is a theoretical distance comparison, not an observed endurance result from the Berlin event.

BMW says no binding WLTP value is currently available and that all data remain provisional. The company also cautions that actual range depends on load, driving style, route, weather, power used by equipment such as air conditioning, tires and battery age.
