BMW’s Millionth M Car Points to an Electric M3 Built in Munich

The milestone M3 marks more than five decades of BMW M production as the company prepares its main Munich plant for an electric-only future.

BMW M has produced its one-millionth vehicle: a BMW M3 with BMW Individual Fire Orange III paintwork, built at BMW Group Plant Munich. BMW says the Munich factory will also become the exclusive manufacturing site for the first fully electric BMW M3, although the company has not stated when production will begin or when the car will go on sale.

The electric M3 will be the first high-performance model to use BMW M Neue Klasse technology. It will be the second Neue Klasse model produced in Munich after the fully electric BMW i3, linking BMW M’s next platform to a factory that began producing the current M3 generation in 2020.

Munich shifts to electric-only production

From 2027 onward, BMW says its main Munich plant will produce only fully electric vehicles. The company remodeled the site while production continued and built a new body shop, vehicle-assembly facilities and logistics areas on about one-third of the plant’s total area.

BMW is investing around €650 million to transform Plant Munich into an exclusively electric-vehicle production site. The company has not disclosed the electric M3’s battery, range, power, price, production volume or launch markets.
